Malmaison Aberdeen

Local information

Local Style

Aberdeen’s nickname as the ‘Silver City’ owes itself to the use of granite in much of the building projects in the 19th century. The local granite glitters from the mica deposits, giving a silver appearance.

The city also has some of Europe’s oldest university buildings, including the imposing 15th century King’s College in Old Aberdeen. Take a stroll down Aberdeen’s beach and take in the sensational views, or explore the many castles in the area… welcome to Aberdeen. At Malmaison we know how to make your stay into the perfect retreat.

Balmoral Castle

The namesake of one of our luxury suites, Balmoral Castle, has been the Scottish home of the Royal Family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852, having been first leased in 1848.

When Queen Victoria died in 1901 Balmoral Estates passed, under the terms of her will, to King Edward VII, and from him to each of his successors. Balmoral Estates has been more than just a favourite home to successive generations of the Royal Family.

Although it remains largely the same as it was in Queen Victoria's reign, successive Royal owners have followed the initiative of Prince Albert in making improvements to the estate. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales take a close personal interest in running and improving the Estates.

Balmoral, Scottish Home to the Royal Family: Grounds, Gardens and Exhibitions open from April to July each year - www.balmoralcastle.com
